7 Lessons From Selling $7 Million Worth Of Websites
What actually makes a website worth buying in 2026?
Joe Burrill has been involved in roughly 300 website transactions worth more than $7 million, giving him a rare view into what buyers will actually pay for.
In this interview with Matt Raad, Joe breaks down what separates a website that struggles to sell from one that commands a premium.
One example is a business news website Joe sold for $275,000 in an all-cash deal at around a 3.3x multiple.
Why did buyers value it so highly?
It wasn’t just traffic or profit.
The site had built a real brand, authority, an editorial team and valuable exposure through Google News and Discover.
Joe also reveals how valuation multiples can vary dramatically.
A typical content site might sell around 2–2.6x, while a business dependent on one traffic or revenue source could fall to 1–1.5x. Stronger, diversified assets can command 3–3.5x or more.
